book by Louis Sachar – Holes tells a complex story simply and beautifully, and with rich credible characters.
I think I did more work for the character development on this than on the finshed drawings, which I only pursued for the very first scenes of the book, but here they are anyway.
stanley
has been accused of stealing a pair of sneakers.
So he’s bussed out to a correction facility in the Texas desert, accompanied by an armed guard.
the warden's house
We haven’t met the Warden at this stage, but the scene is set nicely in terse prose.
Camper is a euphemism for inmate.
and there are
other perils too, out here in the desert.
mr sir
explains to young Stanley that the sun is the most dangerous of all, and is the reason it would be pointless to try and escape.
the other campers
also help Stanley to understand important concepts to help him survive in his new environment.
and here
they all are.
At least his immediate room-mates.
That’s as far as I got with the illustrations.
